Hiroshi Nagai Prints: Where to Buy & How to Spot Fakes

Original A unique painting by Nagai himself, usually acrylic. There is only one, so it costs many times any edition: Phillips sold two 2026 originals for $28,000 each. Galleries often sell them in a pre-sale before a show even opens.

Screenprint Also called silkscreen or serigraph. Every colour is pushed through its own screen by hand, one layer at a time (Nagai's 2026 Phillips editions use 14 to 17). Small editions and a lot of handwork, so they usually cost more and hold their value better.

Giclée A high-resolution inkjet print made from a scan of the painting, on fine-art paper. Official ones are signed, numbered and come with a certificate, but it's a reproduction technique, so compare giclée prices with giclées, not with screenprints.
